Choosing the appropriate tattoo needle is crucial for achieving the desired tattoo effect and ensuring the comfort of the client.

1. Needle Size: Diameter and Length

  • 0.25mm (08): Suitable for delicate lines and intricate details, perfect for minimalist and fresh styles, such as simple flowers or geometric shapes.
  • 0.3mm (10): Ideal for medium-thickness lines, suitable for realistic and traditional styles that require expressive lines, like character outlines or animal fur.
  • 0.35mm (12): Creates prominent lines, often used in new traditional and European styles, effective for highlighting key lines and shading.
  • 0.4mm (14): Best for bold lines and large-area fills, suitable for bold and exaggerated styles like totems or dark themes.

2.Taper: Sharpness and Penetration

  • 3.5mm Taper: Offers a high degree of color saturation and penetration, ideal for traditional and heavy-color styles. It requires a stronger machine to drive due to increased resistance.
  • 5.0mm Taper: Versatile and suitable for a wide range of styles, causing minimal skin damage. It is user-friendly, making it ideal for both beginners and professionals.
  • 7.0mm Taper: Known for its sharpness and tightness, suitable for detailed and finely textured tattoo works, such as realistic portraits.

3. Needle Type: Round and Flat

  • Round Needles:

RL (Round Liner): Used for outlining, commonly available in sizes like 1RL, 3RL, 5RL, etc. The larger the number, the thicker the line.

RS (Round Shader): Used for small shading and expanding lines, such as corners in totem designs.

  • Flat Needles:

F (Flat): Used for small-area coloring and expanding lines, not suitable for large areas.

M2 (Stacked Magnum): Combines multiple needles, suitable for covering larger areas than single-row needles.

RM (Round Magnum): Similar to F but fan-shaped at the top, ideal for shading and coloring, not suitable for corners.

The choice of needle should align with the desired tattoo style and technique. For example, fine-line tattoos require smaller diameter needles, while bold and colorful designs benefit from larger diameter and high-taper needles.
