As tattoo culture becomes increasingly popular, more and more people are choosing to express their personality and stories through tattoos. However, tattoo aftercare is often overlooked, which can lead to infections, scarring, or other skin issues. Recently, we interviewed several tattoo artists and dermatologists to obtain authoritative advice on how to perform professional tattoo care.
- Keep It Clean
Once the tattoo is completed, the first priority is to keep the tattooed area clean. Experts recommend gently washing the tattoo area with warm water and a mild, fragrance-free soap 2-3 times a day until the tattoo is fully healed. Avoid using cleaning products containing alcohol or other irritants, as they can irritate the skin.
- Avoid Friction
During the healing process, avoid wearing tight clothing or engaging in activities that may rub against the tattooed area. Friction can cause the tattoo to blur or affect the healing process.
- Moisturize
The skin may feel dry and tight during the healing process. Use a specialized moisturizer recommended by the tattoo artist and apply it multiple times a day to keep the skin hydrated and promote healing.
- Avoid Direct Sunlight
The tattooed area is particularly sensitive to sunlight during the healing process. Avoid prolonged exposure to the sun to prevent tattoo fading or skin burns.
- Watch for Abnormal Reactions
If the tattooed area experiences redness, swelling, pain, pus, or persistent itchiness, seek medical attention immediately. These may be signs of infection or other skin issues.
